I did however, pick up this doll. The Royal Ball Cinderella is a limited edition of 4000. Right away you can see that her box is completely different than the other 17" dolls.
Secondly, two of the corners have been cut off to save packaging. (She is still the same length, height and width as the other dolls - minus two corners)
The sides of her box
The back of the box - when not obstructed by the ribbon. It's nice that they've included both English and French on this box.
The slip cover. You can see that the box has a few strips of ribbon.
The plastic cover is decorated all over - including the bottom.
Because of the shape of the box, her certificate is actually taped to the back.
Out of her box. Her skin has a pearlescent finish similar to the Frozen dolls and Fawn. I do find it rather odd that all of these recent dolls have had this finish; I prefer the dolls not to. Anyways, Cinderella is wearing her royal ball gown, and is surrounded by pop-out butterflies and scenery.
A close up of her dress. Her dress could have been scrunched more to be more movie accurate (more pleats). Her bodice is a lighter shade than the skirt portion, and the butterflies on top are made of plastic.
A close up of the bodice. The butterflies are in assorted colours and continue on the back of the doll.
You can see the finish better in this photo.
A close up of her face. From certain angles she is not very photogenic. This may be due to Disney trying to make her look more like the actress from the movie as opposed to the animated version. She does have rooted lashes like all the other 17" dolls, but her mold leaves something to be desired. I think that if they kept everything the same and used the 12" mattel royal ball Cinderella's mold, she would have been more desirable.
Her hair is done in long curls and pulled to the side. I'm glad they didn't decide to add tinsel to this doll, as she is already too sparkly with her skin and dress.
She has crystals scattered throughout her hair and a braid on top.
In case you were curious, she does come with her other shoe!
She is number 316 of 4000
In comparing her box to the original 17" doll boxes, they are in fact the same size except that the two front corners have been reduced. This may or may not be for added design, but to me seems like a cover up for saving money on packaging. Here she is in comparison to the animated 17" doll. Personally, the *left* Cinderella has more detailing, more accessories and overall better quality than the live action version. She has earrings, gloves, a hair piece, a necklace and a headband. The only issue with the animated doll is that her glass slippers were pressed too close to the metal stand (as all of them were) and were slightly stained. Although I really like the new Cinderella doll, I definitely feel that Disney is cutting corners (literally - e.g the box) to save money and produce lower quality dolls at a higher price than the originals.
Hoping they learn from this and release their next dolls with better quality to match the price. I will be seeing the movie tomorrow and hopefully that will make me love this doll a little more after knowing her character.
